Follow Ken as he focuses on the most important elements in his animation process: attitudes, beats, and textures.  Ken let’s you deep inside his workflow and methodically walks you through the rigorous thought and detail that goes in to planning, analyzing and blocking a shot.

2) Breakdowns & Body Forces:
Using Energy and Muscle Tension to Tell Your Character’s Story (90min)

Ken begins with his previously blocked shot and proceeds to breakdown the energy and muscle tension to convey believable weight and emotion.  See how carefully chosen holds and overlapping action can create engaging rhythm, and how offsetting and sculpting your curves can enhance both the “functional mechanics” and the “storytelling mechanics”.

3) Vowels, Consonants & Character Shapes:
A Lip-sync Demo (60min)

In this final installment, Ken breaks down his unusual process of defining the “emotional pantomime” and  a unique set of “character shapes” before even attempting to articulate a word – and then depends on prominent “sound shapes” and “percussive shapes” to finally guide him to a believable and effective lip-sync performance.

Parts 1 through 3 are a detailed walkthrough of the production of a single shot.  While each video can be valuable as a stand-alone lesson, it is best to view them in sequence as a series.
