Breakdowns & Body Forces:
Using Energy and Muscle Tension to Tell Your Character’s Story

In this 90-min video (part 2 of the “Attitudes & Acting Beats” series) Ken begins with his previously blocked shot and proceeds to breakdown the energy and muscle tension to convey believable weight and emotion.  See how carefully chosen holds and overlapping action can create engaging rhythm, and how offsetting and sculpting your curves can enhance both the “functional mechanics” and the “storytelling mechanics”.

Who are these tutorial videos for?

The “Attitudes & Acting Beats” series is for the student to professional animator, who is looking for new ways to enhance their animated acting performances, and for new approaches to their creative and technical workflow.

Parts 1 through 3 are a detailed walkthrough of the production of a single shot.  While each video can be valuable as a stand-alone lesson, it is best to view them in sequence as a series.

Released: 2013
