Vowels, Consonants & Character Shapes:
A Lip-sync Demo

In this 60-min video (part 3 of the “Attitudes & Acting Beats” series), Ken breaks down his unusual process of defining the “emotional pantomime” and  a unique set of “character shapes” before even attempting to articulate a word – and then depends on prominent “sound shapes” and “percussive shapes” to finally guide him to a believable and effective lip-sync performance.

Who are these tutorial videos for?

The “Attitudes & Acting Beats” series is for the student to professional animator, who is looking for new ways to enhance their animated acting performances, and for new approaches to their creative and technical workflow.

Parts 1 through 3 are a detailed walkthrough of the production of a single shot.  While each video can be valuable as a stand-alone lesson, it is best to view them in sequence as a series.

Released: 2013
